Privacy Policy
Effective Date: April 7, 2026 · goodthanks co.
New Kid (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is operated by goodthanks co. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the New Kid mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Service”). Please read it carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, do not access or use the Service.
New Kid is currently in closed beta and available only in Los Angeles, California. By using the Service, you acknowledge that the product is in active development and some features or data practices may evolve as we prepare for general availability.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
- Phone number — your only account identifier. Used solely for authentication via one-time passcode (OTP) delivered by SMS through Twilio.
- First and last name — used to personalize your experience and display your identity to people you connect with.
- Username handle — your public identifier within the app.
- Birthday — collected to verify you are 21 or older, as required to access the Service.
- Zip code — used to confirm you are in our supported launch city (Los Angeles, CA).
- Category preferences — types of venues and experiences you enjoy, selected during onboarding.
- Taste profile — responses to eight-dimension sliders (e.g., vibe, cuisine, price range, drink preferences, activity type) used to personalize your discovery feed.
Location Information
We request access to your device’s GPS location on a one-time basis during onboarding to verify that you are located in our supported service area. We do not continuously track your location in the background. You may disable location access in your device settings at any time; doing so may limit certain location-based features.
Contact List (Optional)
We may request access to your device’s contact list to help you find people you know on New Kid. This access is entirely optional. If you grant it:
- Contact data is used only to match phone numbers against existing New Kid accounts.
- We never send unsolicited messages to your contacts on your behalf.
- We never share your contact list with third parties, venues, or advertisers.
- You can revoke this permission in your device settings at any time.
Usage and Device Information
When you use the Service, we may automatically collect standard technical information including device type, operating system version, app version, IP address, and crash/error logs. This data is used solely for debugging and improving the Service. We use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights for anonymous performance monitoring.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account.
- To verify your identity via SMS OTP (authentication only — not marketing).
- To personalize your discovery feed based on your taste profile and preferences.
- To provide the plan-building, saving, and social features of the Service.
- To enforce the 21+ age requirement and LA-only geographic gate.
- To send service-related communications (e.g., plan invitations, RSVP updates, account notifications) when you have opted in to push notifications.
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service.
- To improve, test, and develop new features for the Service.
We do not use your personal information to build advertising profiles, sell leads, or infer sensitive characteristics about you. We do not sell your data to venues, brands, or any third party. Ever.
3. Sponsored Content
New Kid’s discovery feed may include sponsored venue posts placed by venues that pay for visibility. All sponsored content is clearly labeled as “Sponsored” within the app interface. Sponsorship status does not affect how venues are scored or ranked in your personalized feed — the taste-match algorithm operates independently of any commercial relationship. We do not share your personal data with sponsors in connection with the display of sponsored content.
4. Affiliate Links and Commission Relationships
New Kid may earn affiliate commissions when you complete a booking or purchase through links to third-party platforms including Resy, OpenTable, Ticketmaster, DICE, Tixr, and Eventbrite. These affiliate relationships operate strictly at the transaction-routing level:
- Affiliate economics never influence which venues are surfaced, recommended, or ranked.
- Your taste profile and discovery feed are determined entirely by your preferences and behavior within New Kid.
- When you click an affiliate link, you are transferred to the third-party platform and subject to their privacy policy and terms.
5. Push Notifications
We send push notifications only if you have explicitly opted in. Notifications may include plan invitations, venue updates, and time-sensitive activity alerts. You can opt out of push notifications at any time through your device’s notification settings or within the app under Settings. Revoking notification permissions does not affect your ability to use the Service.
6. SMS Communications
We use Twilio to send SMS one-time passcodes (OTPs) for account authentication. By providing your phone number and requesting a verification code, you consent to receive a single SMS message per authentication attempt. Standard message and data rates may apply. We do not send promotional SMS messages. You can stop receiving SMS from us by deleting your account.
7. Profile Privacy
Your New Kid profile is private by default. Saves, plans, and activity are not visible to other users unless you choose to share them. We operate a three-tier privacy model:
- Saves — public (visible to followers, if you enable following).
- Plans — private unless you share an invite link.
- Presence / activity — visible only to mutual connections.
You control your privacy settings from your account settings at any time.
8. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information only:
- With service providers — companies that help us operate the Service (e.g., Supabase for database hosting, Vercel for deployment, Twilio for SMS, OpenAI for AI features). These providers are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.
- For legal compliance — if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of goodthanks co., our users, or others.
- In a business transfer — if goodthanks co. is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your data is subject to a materially different privacy policy.
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.
10. Children’s Privacy
New Kid requires users to be 21 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 21. If we learn that we have collected information from someone under 21, we will delete that information promptly.
11. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to: (a) know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and sell; (b) request deletion of your personal information; (c) opt out of the sale of your personal information (we do not sell personal information); and (d) non-discrimination for exercising these rights. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@newkid.city.
12. Security
We use industry-standard security measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted data transmission (TLS), row-level security on our database, and access controls that limit who can view personal data. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Effective Date” at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the app. Your continued use of the Service after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
